Dr. Naoki Itoh

Dr. Naoki Itoh, after earning Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2004, gained research experience at Louisiana State University in the United States and Tohoku University in Japan. He is currently a full professor at the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo. His specialty is infectious diseases in aquaculture species, with a particular focus on researching viral, bacterial, and parasitic diseases in marine mollusks such as oysters, scallops, clams, mussels, and abalone. Through various approaches, including epidemiological surveys, identification and elucidation of pathogen life cycles, histological observations, and the study of host defense mechanisms, he aims to advance both the scientific understanding and potential treatments for mollusk diseases.
