

Dr. Elizabeth Cottier-Cook
Dr. Elizabeth Cottier-Cook is Professor in Marine Biology, specialising in Seaweed Biosecurity at the Scottish Association for Marine Science, UK. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers on a variety of topics ranging from marine invasive species to environmental impacts of aquaculture to seaweed health and biosecurity. She is currently leading a £750K research programme “GlobalSeaweed-SUPERSTAR” funded by DEFRA involving countries in SE Asia and aiming to develop a global strategy that protects, conserves and restores wild seaweeds, whilst supporting livelihoods of seaweed farmers and their indigenous peoples and local communities. As part of an earlier, related programme - GlobalSeaweedSTAR, she developed a ‘Progressive Management Pathway for Seaweed Biosecurity’, in collaboration with UN FAO. She is also a member of the UN FAO Technical Working Group on Pathway Management Planning for Aquaculture Biosecurity, ICES Working Group on Introductions and Transfers of Marine Organisms (WGITMO) and the Scottish Government Working Group on Marine Non-Native Species.
